The steadily rising water level of the Salton Sea in southern California is presenting a problem for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission in seeking to safeguard test facilities operated by Sandia Corporation on the shores of the Sea.

Nice find. 67 years later, the Sea is about 3.5 feet lower than it was in the article (and 10 feet lower than it was in 2003). you can see the footprint of the old dike at https://goo.gl/maps/rk8ixvJnRn7w9kKVA – now stranded well above the shoreline.
