It’s a metaphor, but you need to point it at something.
Thanks, William, if I need to point it at something then it’s not a metaphor. I’m trying, in the words of Bruce Springsteen, to “just stand back and let it all be.” Though, in irony, neither Bruce nor I are in fact able to do that. We both have to write the thing and share it with others.
A friend on twitter suggested that what I’ve got here is an allegory.
Mostly, though I just have a self-deprecating joke about how the professional writer actually has no idea what he’s doing. I just kinda make it up as I go.
