Those figures are hard to believe with all of the droughts causing famine in underdeveloped areas of the world.

You raise an interesting question.
The drought/famine problem can be extreme, but it’s relatively localized in its effects against a background of continuous and quite dramatic increases in agricultural productivity overall. So overall conditions are improving, even as famine strikes individual very poor countries.
