Most of the way through October, it’s been a dry start to the 2014-15 “water year”, the season in which we build the snowpack to feed the rivers of the southwestern United States. As Jonathan Overpeck says:
+ @jfleck if there ever was a water year/ winter when we needed snow in our SW headwaters, this is it… Odds only ok.

Our wx office the other day posted a side-by-side of satellite pix from last year and this year on same calendar day, and stated our snowpack is only ~25% of normal. If this keeps up, fire year next year will be horrible. And California? fuhgeddaboudit.

Well at least it has been great bicycling weather around Denver.
Best bicycling year around Denver in many years! (but I’ll take a day of rain)
