Many years ago, one of the newspapers I read (I think the Christian Science Monitor) held a contest, inviting readers to pen a weather forecast in the style of their favorite writer. I chose Hemingway:
It was hot.
Sadly, I never sent it in. This is one of my life’s great regrets.
(Memory triggered by The day Hemingway attended a child’s birthday party)
You were really contemplating a forecast in the past tense? I feel the dew falls off the predictive rose once you start writing about yesterday’s weather, but I’m traditional like that.
Perhaps just as well, then, that I never sent it in.
I dunno. Somehow, I expect Hemingway would forecast in the past tense.
