I love the New York Times for many reasons. This line from their editorial about Hetch Hetchy, the Yosemite reservoir serving Sacramento, is one of them:
Ninety-nine years ago, this newspaper argued against the construction of the dam. We lost, but the much bigger loss was nature’s.
That’s owning your heritage.
If we are expecting greater drought and floods with GW, then won’t we have to build more water storage capacity?
…psssst…sotto voce Hetch Hetchy serves San Francisco…
Ask me one day about my bike tour in the mountains around Yosemite (!) and climbing out of Tuolumne canyon past the gigantic pipes draining Hetch Hetchy.
Best,
D
