I am a weather nerd.
So it was with great excitement that I unpacked my new official CoCoRaHS RG202 4″ Rain Gauge this evening.
It replaces an identical old one that I put up in the back yard in September 1999 when I joined the local National Weather Service office’s CityNet group of volunteer observers. I recently signed up for CoCoRaHS, and bought a new gauge. The old one was pretty beat up, but served me well:
Congrats. Did you get it out there before the two downpours this afternoon?
Mark – No, not until after. There was 0.06 inch in the old one when I took it down.
I sure like the name of that gauge. It must stand for Coco’s Ancient Sun God Harmonized System
I’m also a CoCoRaHs weather reporter and nerd proudly reporting from station NM-BR-123 in the Southeast Heights. I’ve been doing it since May and I’m always eager to see what the gage has for me by 7 AM each morning. I would encourage anyone to join. In New Mexico, they got a grant to provide you with the gage for free. Most states require you to purchase the thing for about $32. Albuquerque really needs more reporters in the downtown/Martineztown/Barelas area. There are almost no gages in this area of town.
