In which my colleague Dan McKay rides the bus:

I visited some West Side bus stops this morning to talk with commuters, and, man, are the buses packed. In at least one instance, the bus couldn’t take anybody new at a stop because it was so full.

It’s pretty amazing the growth we’ve seen in bus ridership over the last few years.

  1. It’s been a little crazy here in the D.C. area as well John. I know that a lot of the seasonal ridership has to do with summer tourists, but day-to-day there’s quite a bit of fluctuation – not just on the subway system, but on the bus that connect parts of northern Alexandria with the subway system too. Unless tourists are staying with friends and family, I don’t see how those buses are full unless more people are taking mass transit.
